Agota Szabo

Dr Agota Szabo is an internationally recognized board governance advisor and researcher, working at the intersection of academic research and boardroom practice. She is a Leadership and Board Governance Researcher at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and is affiliated with the Leadership Academy as a governance expert.

Her work focuses on how boards function, with particular attention to board dynamics, role clarity, accountability, and effectiveness in complex and membership-based organizations. Boards engage Agota to design and facilitate board retreats, governance-focused education, and professional onboarding processes, as well as to support boards as a coach during periods of challenge and transition.

Alongside her academic and executive education activities, she advises boards of large not-for-profit organizations, European industry associations, and selected corporate boards, bringing both analytical depth and practical perspective to board governance questions.
